The core of the project was the exhibition in the space of the Verein der Berliner Künstlerinnen 1867 e.V., “Die Wunderkammer der Anderen – Le Cabinet des Curiosités des Autres” reveals glimpses into the inner worlds of the artists and showcases a very diverse creative spectrum. A large number of artists presented display cases featuring objects, presented in a setting designed specifically for young people. Artists from the association, as well as international artists, among others, are participating in the exhibition.
The exhibition was a collaborative project between the Alexander and Renata Camaro Foundation, the Bühler-Bolstorff Foundation, and the VdBK 1867. Daily guided tours and workshops for Berlin schools took place during the exhibition and will continue in the spaces of the Alexander and Renata Camaro Foundation beyond the exhibition’s duration. The Bühler-Bolstorff Foundation Berlin aims, among other things, to promote art and culture, as well as to support the education and upbringing of young people in particular.

historical background
The Alexander and Renata Camaro Foundation is now housed in the former studio building on Potsdamer Straße; in addition to exhibiting and preserving the work of its namesakes, it serves as a partner for artistic education projects.
The Association of Berlin Women Artists was founded in 1867 as a true pioneering achievement. Until 1919, women were denied access to art academies. In 1893, the studio building at Potsdamer Straße 98A was constructed for the association (today’s Camaro House), serving as Germany’s first art college for women. Artists such as Käthe Kollwitz and Paula Modersohn-Becker worked there. The VdBK 1867 helped ensure that women, too, received a solid artistic education, social security, and opportunities to exhibit and sell their work.
Today, the association presents a cross-generational exhibition program featuring both historical members and contemporary artists in its exhibition spaces at Eisenacher Straße 118, and advocates for the visibility and equality of women artists.
The international networking of the VdBK 1867 and the Camaro Foundation came about through collaboration with a cultural institute in France. The exhibition’s educational concept was developed during an artist residency and further refined in Berlin.
